Donald Trump promises Americans $2,000 tariff dividend payments

Once again, America's President, Donald Trump, is making promises, this time pledging two thousand US dollars to each American citizen nationwide as part of the tariff dividend.

Over the weekend Trump stated this:

“A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone”

The president wrote this on a social media post Sunday according to ABC NEWS.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed skepticism about the plan, suggesting that the payout might relate to tax savings established by Trump's inadequate domestic spending measure. The government is still currently shut done and has been since October 1st 2025.

What is a dividend?

“Dividend” describes a payout to individual shareholders, funded by a companies profits.
